Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum

Boston, MA

Stuart-Lynn Company provided cost estimating services throughout all phases of design for the new Renzo Piano designed expansion. The new construction is intended to relieve pressure on the existing building, which houses a shop, a cafe, performance space, and offices. A new entrance will guide visitors into the campus from a side street off the grand Fenway and allow better circulation and a spectacular view of the Palace. The 71,000sf of new facilities will include an acoustically superior performance space and state-of-the-art greenhouses as well as new ancillary guest service areas and restoration workshops. While the majority of work shall involve the master plan of a new entry and expansion, there will be some restoration and limited renovation to the existing Palace. Much of this work may be concentrated in basement levels where mechanical and back-of-house functions reside. The new design is called a harmonious marriage of preservation and progress by John Lowell Gardner, the Board of Trustees chairman and great grand-nephew of Isabella Stewart Gardner
